Drinking Beers Blind 2016 #2 & 3

If you thought I sucked at reviewing one beer blind, imagine how awful I am when I try to review two at the same time!

Well, no need to really describe the appearance here, is there? Beer 2A had a thin tan ring around the top that was slightly bigger than this picture shows here upon first pour. Beer 2B...well...2B was hissing from the start and the head was Drumpf huge --- Yuuuuueeeege!

In the aroma department, the smells are about as different as their respective appearance. 2A is subtle and roasty. There's nothing wild here...no barrels detected, no adjuncts, no heat or hops either. But very, very nice roasty malts with a faint chocolate presence. 2B on the other hand has a lot going on. There is a little bit of funk and fruit. I'm expecting a tart taste along the lines of Tart of Darkness from the smell alone.

Taste time!

I swear these beers are the alcoholic personification of Goofus & Gallant. 2A is all clean and proper, with a smooth stout taste and feel. Bits of chocolate and chalk. The roasting continues and I get a tiny bit of peanut butter here. And then there's ol' Goofus 2B! Fruit and chocolate mixed together. A beautiful balance of sweetness with the tiniest hint of tart on the first sip.

The happy face on the blind paper wrapping indicates that these are higher abv beers, but I don't get any heat from either and both are super easy to drink. Aside from the oily sweetness that hangs in my mouth from 2B, I could easily down these beers in quick order.

I have an idea of what they are despite never having either. From the bottle size, the pairing suggestion, and the beer type, I'm putting my chips on Jack's Abbey. Do they make a separate Framinghammer with just Peanut Butter and Jelly?

Let's see what we got here?

The sender of these beers is just straight up fucking with me at this point. He's like a magician showing me a sparkly woman on the left while he steals my wallet on the right. Just when I think I'm all smrat with my guesses on bottle shape and location, POW, right in the kisser!

Regardless, these were both great. I love porters. I'm a simple man. I enjoy simple pleasures like butter in my ass and lollipops in my mouth. That's me — call me crazy. Keep your zany sours and pterodactyls, I'll stick with the classics like porters and stouts and lagers. I loved these and all the adjuncts in them that I swore weren't there!

I drink beer and listen to records and pet dogs. Yep, that about sums me up.
